Patchway CC 178/9 lost to Stoke Gifford CC 182/6 by 4 wickets
Stoke Gifford 1st XI produced a memorable performance away from home to claim a four-wicket victory against Patchway CC in Eighth Division North action at Scott Park, anchored by an incredible unbeaten knock from Lewis Jefferies.
Patchway won the toss and elected to bat, with opening batters Casey Hull (30) and Chris Hull (26) making a confident start. The pair put together an opening stand of 59 before Harry Black made the vital breakthrough, having Casey Hull caught by Henry Birt. Just a single run later, Harry Black struck again as Ian Semple held a catch to remove Chris Hull for 26.
The double breakthrough shifted the momentum in Stoke Gifford's favour as the bowling attack tore through the middle order. Rich Stadden bowled an excellent eight-over spell, taking 2-29 and dismissing Mukesh Sharma for a duck—caught by Birt—and bowling Matthew Williams without scoring. Alex Burford turned the screw further, taking 3-47 from his eight overs. Burford had James Williams caught by Joe Black, bowled Darren Williams, and stumped Patchway's top scorer Ajay Yadav for 47 off the bowling of keeper Ian Semple. Ashray Shetty provided late runs with a brisk 32 off 31 balls before being caught by Matt Semple off Lewis Jefferies (2-41), leaving Patchway on 178/9 at the end of their 40 overs.
Stoke Gifford’s pursuit of 179 got off to a difficult start. Andrew Ridley bowled with great control, taking 2-14 in his spell, and claimed the wickets of both Ian Semple (14) and Henry Birt (1) to leave the visitors struggling at 25/2. When Ajay Yadav (2-21) removed Matt Semple (9) and Ryan Edwards (3), Stoke Gifford found themselves in real trouble at 63/4.
However, Lewis Jefferies played a masterclass of an innings to turn the match around. Batting at number four, Jefferies dominated the Patchway bowling, scoring an unbeaten 89 off 79 deliveries, including 10 fours and a six. He rebuilt the innings alongside Alex Burford (10) in a 32-run partnership for the fifth wicket, before teaming up with Harry Black (17) for a match-defining 68-run stand that took Stoke Gifford within sight of the target.
Casey Hull bowled Harry Black with the score at 163/6, but Joe Black (3*) joined Jefferies to see out the remaining runs. Capitalising on a helpful total of 36 extras from the home bowling attack, Stoke Gifford reached 182/6 in 39.2 overs to seal an outstanding victory.
