Stoke Gifford 1st XI earned a hard-fought 35-run victory over Easton Cuttlefish CC in Eighth Division North, driven by an exceptional all-round performance from Lewis Jefferies. After winning the toss and choosing to bat at home, Stoke Gifford set a target of 228 before bowling the visitors out for 193 in a match full of dramatic momentum shifts.
The home side's innings began with early wobbles. Opener Henry Birt was caught off Jamie Elder for 8, and when Rob Tinkler bowled Brendan Walsh for a duck, Stoke Gifford were positioned at 55/2. However, opener Matt Semple provided crucial stability, stroking 13 boundaries in a fine 74 off 84 balls. Semple partnered with Lewis Jefferies to steady the innings, adding 82 runs together for the third wicket before Semple was caught off Martin Stratton at 137/3.
Shabir Azizi then joined Jefferies in a flourishing 76-run stand. Azizi contributed a brisk 25 off 30 balls, including two fours and a six, as Stoke Gifford looked set to post a commanding total. At the center of it all was Jefferies, who played a thrilling knock featuring 13 fours and two sixes. Jefferies' dismissal triggered an extraordinary late collapse. From a comfortable position at 213/3, Stoke Gifford lost their remaining seven wickets for just 15 runs. Matt Porter clean bowled Lewis Russell (1) and Sam Horner (0), while run-outs claimed Joe Black (1) and Rich Stadden (0) to bring the innings to a close at 228 all out in 40 overs. Defending 228, Stoke Gifford made an early breakthrough when Joe Black had Rowan Hibbett caught by Matt Semple for 1. Easton Cuttlefish fought back through solid contributions from Neil S Boulton (32), Shrey Brahmbhatt (40), and Alex Jeffcutt (25).
